Discover Your Hidden Talent

Dicover your hidden talent

Why hide your talent in the closet of complacency when you have greatness within you?

Robin Sharma

There is a difference between simply existing and truly living. The sad thing is that most people have lost sight of the talent that lies within them. They have surrendered themselves to spending the best years of their lives focusing on their weakness rather than developing their strengths. They focus on what they don’t have and neglect the talents they do have.

Finding our hidden talents can be quite difficult to do. For me, it took me decades to find out that I was good at writing.

It was never a skill that I knew I had, But here I am today, a blogger pursuing her passion for writing.

1.What Intrigued You As A Child?

Take two minutes and recall your most cheerful memories from school. What made those moments so delightful?

Were you highly competitive or studious as a 12-year-old? Maybe you enjoyed working on big, competitive, team-oriented projects? Your friends loved your company and everyone wanted you in their group, or maybe you were an introvert with a lesser friend circle and you loved jotting down your thoughts in your diary

As you mull over these childhood memories, consider what similar activities excite you as an adult.

You may still be highly competitive, but now you’re competing for that promotion. You may still love complex group projects, but now you do it for a Multi-National Company.

So, understand that what intrigued you as a student and what fascinates you as an adult are actually very similar. You’re just using that same talent in different environments.

2. You Forget About Time

What do you do on a free weekend? I know, you begin a favourite activity. Maybe it’s playing guitar or gardening or writing an article. Maybe you love dabbling in painting or cooking or you love coding Python for that personal project.

This activity, whenever you do it, exhilarate you. You are so much into it that you lose track of time. Before you know it, it’s 12:30 and you haven’t even thought about lunch yet. (Happens to me all the time when I start writing!)

So, take a very close observation of moments like this. If you’re so captivated by an activity that you lose track of time, it means you’re using one or more of your natural hidden talents.

3. What Do You Crave For?

What fire is burning inside of you at this very moment?

Every artist was first an amateur.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Do you love writing? Cool. Start a blog. Can you paint better than anyone else in the area? Great. Make a few paintings and start an exhibition. Do you love cooking and dabbling in new recipes? Lovely. Start a YouTube Channel.

Find at least one tiny way to relive that joy you felt back in school. Get lost in your favourite activity and lose track of time on a Saturday morning. Hone in on what you crave to do, and start doing it.

4. Ask Your Friends About Your Qualities

If you’re not able to find your talent by yourself, why not ask your friends? You know they are going to be brutally honest. But the great thing about asking a handful of trusted friends about your qualities is that they all usually say the same thing and when different people see you in the same light, this is definitely a sign of talent.

5. What You Have Been Thanked For?

Notice what you are thanked for regularly. Are you a good listener? A good teacher? A good motivator? All of these things are talents even though they seem small.

Diamonds are attractive because of their appearance and the value they carry. The great thing is we all can find diamonds. They are existing everywhere.

Here are 3 Benefits of Using Our Talent:

1. To Help Other People

Our gifts or talents are created not just for ourselves but to help others as well.

We benefit from other people’s talents. We benefit from Microsoft’s creative ideas, Edison’s light bulb, BMW’s automotive ideas or our mom’s cooking. Almost everyone around us helps us in one way or another.

Sharing our talents with other people can create more lasting contentment. It is actually a win-win situation. We get to exercise our talent and other people on the other end receives an advantage from it.

2. We Can Make Money Out of It

We don’t need to feel guilty acknowledging that money is one of the purposes to use our talents. But let’s be careful at the same time that our gifts and talents are not just for earning money.

Our talents can not only help us earn money but with proper development and use, they can also offer us richness beyond imagination. We just need to find ways to use our talents.

Lots of opportunities are right at our fingertips with the improvement of technology. Whether we are great at doing painting, cooking or anything else, there is always an opportunity waiting for us. We just need to find the right platform.

Last but not the least, It is very important to discover your hidden talents to live life to the fullest because you will find the true meaning of life and fulfil its purposes while enjoying what you really love to do.
